Fondazione Cinema per Roma presents the programme for the month of May at Casa del Cinema.

To celebrate the one-year anniversary of the renovation and reopening of the theatre, there will be free admission to all the events and films in the programme on Saturday May 4th and Sunday May 5th. Ferzan Özpetek, Matteo Garrone and Valeria Golino will be the featured guests at three encounters with the public during which they will present the films they love best, which will be screened from May 4th to 10th.

From May 1st to June 7th, the “Work in Progress” film series will feature eleven films from the 1960s to the present day, on the theme of labour, by auteurs such as Luchino Visconti, Billy Wilder, Antonio Pietrangeli, Ken Loach, Daniele Luchetti and Michele Riondino.

Starting May 14th, Casa del Cinema will host five screenings of the “Film of the month”, Hate (La Haine) by Mathieu Kassovitz: thirty years after its release in theatres, the masterpiece will be screened in its restored version by Minerva Pictures and Rarovideo, in collaboration with Cat People Distribuzione.

From May 2nd to May 30th, for the centenary of his birth, the genius of Sidney Lumet will be celebrated with a retrospective of six of his greatest films, from 12 Angry Men to Serpico, from The Verdict to Dog Day Afternoon.

There will be three events, between May 8th and May 29th, in the series “Listening to cinema”: Pivio and Aldo De Scalzi, Gatto Ciliegia Contro Il Grande Freddo and Teho Teardo, led by musicteller Federico Sacchi, will come to the stage of Casa del Cinema to meet the public and present the screenings of three films for which they composed the soundtrack (The Scent of the Night, Miss Marx and The Past is a Foreign Land).

From May 5th to June 2nd, the cycle “Forever Kids” returns, dedicated to family movies, while from May 15th to June 6th, there will be three screenings for the series “Traveling through Italy”, under the patronage of the Ministry of Tourism and Enit – National Tourist Agency.

Finally, Monday May 20th will be dedicated to Mario Bernardo, with a series of presentations, screenings and encounters with free admission to celebrate the great cinematographer from Venice.
