Between July and August, Zètema Progetto Cultura and the Fondazione Cinema per Roma will carry out a new initiative, promoted by Roma Capitale, that will bring the seventh art into the suburbs of the Capital city, with three different film arenas for a total of forty-four free screenings introduced by some of the most influential and acclaimed protagonists of Italian cinema.

It begins at Tor Bella Monaca from July 4th through 18th, in Via Giovanni Castano (VI Municipality), while in the Corviale district from July 4th through 19th an outdoor space will be set up at the Renato Nicolini Library (XI Municipality). The programme will conclude at the Santa Maria della Pietà complex (XIV Municipality) from July 20th through August 3rd.

The project funded by the European Union Next Generation EU as part of the National Plan for Resilience and Recovery (PNRR) is one of the Intangible Interventions included in the planning programme titled Piani Urbani Integrati M5C2-Investimento 2.2, designated for the suburbs of Metropolitan Cities.

“Outdoor cinema in the summer is now richer with the addition of arenas of Tor Bella Monaca, Corviale and Santa Maria della Pietà funded as part of the PNRR and featured in the Estate Romana programme, which this year has been significantly oriented towards enhancing the Seventh Art, for a total of 24 arenas operating throughout the city between July and September”, explains the Councillor for Culture of Roma Capitale, Miguel Gotor. “These three arenas, he added, are particularly significant because they are part of a project to enhance three strategic areas of the city, which will be regenerated by means of three Integrated Urban Plans. I am certain that the variety of the programmes in these film series will inspire many citizens to attend these screenings, and that for many of them it will be an opportunity to discover or once again enjoy old or new films, together and in a festival atmosphere”.

The three arenas will have free admission while seats last, the films will begin at 9 pm; all the films will be screened in the Italian version. The audiences in the Tor Bella Monaca and Corviale Arenas will be able to vote for their favourite film from a list of titles that will be given to the spectators before the screenings start: the evenings of Saturday July 15th at Corviale and Monday July 17th at Tor Bella Monaca will be dedicated to the films that received the largest number of votes.
