Sabrina Ferilli to conduct the opening night of the 8th Rome Film Festival

Sabrina Ferilli will do the honours on the opening night of the 8th Rome Film Festival (November 8-17, 2013). The Roman actress will inaugurate the red carpet of the Auditorium Parco della Musica, greet the public of the Sala Santa Cecilia (which this year will be the main screening venue for the Festival) and will present the jury, before the screening of L’ultima ruota del carro, the film by Giovanni Veronesi that will be shown as the Out of Competition Gala event on the evening of November 8th.

The Roman actress, one of the most famous and beloved personalities in Italian cinema, starred in Paolo Sorrentino’s The Great Beauty (La grande bellezza), presented in Competition at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival and selected to represent Italian film production at the 2014 Oscars®. For her performance beside Toni Servillo and Carlo Verdone, she won her fourth Nastro d’Argento (as Best Supporting Actress). Following her early experiences in the entertainment world, the director and screenwriter Alessandro d’Alatri chose her to star with Burt Young, Fabrizio Bentivoglio, and Massimo Ghini in Red American (American Rosso, 1991), a film that won the David di Donatello for Best Debut Director. Two years later, she was the star of Diary of a Maniac (Diario di un vizio), a film that won the Critics’ Award at the Berlin Film Festival. In 1994, Sabrina Ferilli won the Nastro d’Argento for Best Actress for her performance in Living It Up (La bella vita, 1994), the debut film of Tuscan director, screenwriter, and producer Paolo Virzì. That same year, she starred in Il giudice ragazzino by Alessandro Di Robilant, a film that won the Critics’ Award at the Berlinale. In 1996, the actress worked for Ricky Tognazzi in the cast of Strangled Lives (Vite strozzate) and again with Virzì in August Vacation (Ferie d’agosto), a film that won the David di Donatello as Best Film and won Sabrina Ferilli a nomination for the Nastro d’Argento for Best Actress. That same year, she starred in the film by Alessandro Benvenuti Ritorno a casa Gori, and in 1998 played the role of Nora in You Laugh (Tu ridi) by Paolo Taviani. She also worked with Francesco Nuti in Gambling with Love (Il signor Quindicipalle). Two years later, the Roman actress was one of the stars of Freewheeling (A ruota libera) by Vincenzo Salemme with Carlo Buccirosso and Massimo Ceccherini. In 2003 the famous director and screenwriter from Milan Luciano Emmer chose her for 3 Women (L’acqua… il fuoco), presented Out of Competition at the 60th Venice International Film Festival. For her performance beside Giancarlo Giannini she won the Vittorio De Sica Prize in 2004, conferred by the President of the Republic Carlo Azeglio Ciampi. From 2004 to 2011, she worked with Neri Parenti in the box office hits Christmas in love  (2004), Natale a New York (2006), Vacanze a Beverly Hills (2009) and Vacanze di Natale a Cortina (2011). In 2008, Sabrina Ferilli again worked with Paolo Virzì in the award-winning comedy A Whole Life Ahead (Tutta la vita davanti) for which she won the Nastro d’Argento as Best Supporting Actress and a nomination for the David in the same category. In 2009 she starred in The New Monsters Today (I mostri oggi by Enrico Oldoini. In 2011, she was the voice talent for the character Sally in the Italian version of the Walt Disney cartoon Cars 2. Throughout her career, Sabrina Ferilli has demonstrated her versatility on television and on the stage. On television, in 1996, she conducted the Festival di Sanremo with Pippo Baudo and presented several episodes of “Mai dire Gol”; while in 1998 she starred in “Commesse” by Giorgio Capitani, and in 1999 in “Le ali della vita” by Stefano Reali with Virna Lisi. In 2000 she won the Premio Internazionale Flaiano as Best Actress in “Come l’America” by the Frazzi brothers. The following year, she co-hosted, with Lucio Dalla, the television programme “La Bella e la Besthia” on Rai Uno. In 2004, she acted in “Dalida” (directed by Joyce Bunuel) and starred in the television series “Due imbroglioni e mezzo” by Franco Amurri with Claudio Bisio (2006 and 2009). This was followed by two seasons of “Anna e i cinque” by Monica Vullo (2008) and Franco Amurri (2010). In 2013 she produced and acted in the television mini-series “Baciamo le mani” by Eros Puglielli. She began her career in theatre in 1994, with her debut at the Teatro Sistina in Rome in the play by Garinei and Giovannini, “Alleluja brava gente”. She worked with Pietro Garinei again in “Un paio d’ali” (1996) and “Rugantino” (1998). In 2005 she starred with Maurizio Micheli in “La presidentessa” by Maurice Henneghin and Veber, directed and adapted for the stage by Gigi Proietti.
