After being postponed on account of rain, the “Cinema Goes Fashion” fashion show is underway at the Auditorium’s Villa Romana. The runway featured costumed extras dressed like characters from Italian cinema: from Anita Ekberg in La Dolce Vita to Nanni Moretti in Dear Diary, from City of Women to Rome, Open City. Even “ladies” and red-cloaked priests abounded. Massimo Ghini and Serena Autieri also performed several scenes from their theatrical rendition of Roman Holiday.
Precious fabrics and dresses illuminated by dancing lights were set against the backdrop of the Roman ruins, transformed into a film set under the supervision of Stefano Dominella, president of Alta Roma, and Gabriella Pescucci, the Oscar-winning costume designer for director Piero Maccarinelli and Roberto Malfatto.
Black and white dominated the event’s attire: there were silk suits in all black and all white by Guillermo Mariotto of Gattinoni; unique and iridescent fabrics in the five dresses by Franco Ciambella; bared shoulders and elaborate necklines in the Princess Galitzine’s distinctive dresses; and sequins and beads in the dress by Sorelle Fontana.
The runway was interspersed by film costumes. The evening’s special guest, Ela Weber, donned the black velvet dress created by Guillermo Mariotto for Anita Ekberg in the infamous Trevi Fountain scene of Fellini’s La dolce vita, to cries of “Marcello, come here…”.
