A Journey Through American Cinema. Jeremy Irons

After having featured Susan Sarandon, Paul Schrader and Wes Anderson, the current series of “A Journey Through American Cinema” anxiously awaits the arrival of another great international film star – Jeremy Irons. The star, whose performance in Barbet Schroeder’s Reversal of Fortune won the Oscar for Best Actor in a leading role, will be in Rome April 18th , at 9pm, to meet his fans at the Auditorium Parco della Musica (Sala Petrassi).

The format of “A Journey Through American Cinema”, created by the Fondazione Cinema per Roma, allows fans to view a sampling of famous film clips and take part in a one-to-one talk between the actor (Jeremy Irons) and the knowledgeable hosts of the series: Antonio Monda and Mario Sesti.

Jeremy Irons’ big screen debut occurs in the 80s following a very prolific experience in theatre and television. His first big screen performances include, Nijinsky (1980) by Herbert Ross and The French Lieutenant’s woman (1981) by Karel Reisz, where he is cast opposite Meryl Streep. In 1986, he co-stars with Robert DeNiro in Roland Joffé’s Mission and receives a Golden Globe nomination, but it isn’t until his critically acclaimed role in Reversal of Fortune that he takes home an Academy Award for Best Actor and a David di Donatello Award for Best Foreign Actor. Irons then works with David Cronenberg in Dead Ringers (1988) and M. Butterfly (1993), as well as a slew of renown directors such as, Steven Soderbergh (Kafka, 1992), Louis Malle (Damage, 1992), Bernardo Bertolucci (Stealing Beauty,1996), Franco Zeffirelli (Callas Forever,2002), Ridley Scott (Kingdom of Heaven, 2005), David Lynch (Inland Empire, 2006).

“A Journey Through American Cinema” includes among its past guests, Tim Burton, John Turturro, Todd Solondz, James Ivory, Spike Lee, Syndney Pollack, Arthur Penn, Joel and Ethan Coen, Frances McDormand, Jane Fonda, David Lynch, Sidney Lumet, Jonathan Demme, Milos Forman, Jim Jarmusch, Michael Cimino, Terry Gilliam, Ethan Hawke, Susan Sarandon, Paul Schrader, Wes Anderson.
