Festa: 47 Mastroianni’s movies at the Casa del Cinema

Cinema, literature and music. The crossroads between these three artistic expressions is at the very centre of several RomeFilmFest’s events, hosted by the Casa del Cinema (House of Cinema), the Casa delle Letterature (House of Literature) and the Casa del Jazz (House of Jazz). The first will pay a tribute to the Italian actor Marcello Mastroianni with a retrospective at the 10th anniversary of his death on December 19th, 1996. Secondly, the Casa delle Letterature, in collaboration with the Cineteca Nazionale, will organize a testimonial  to Mario Soldati. Finally, the Casa del Jazz will host three musicians, Piero Piccioni, Piero Umiliani and Armando Trovajoli, who have also written original soundtracks for movies.
The retrospective devoted to Mastroianni will be opened by Anna Maria Tatò’s documentary Mi ricordo, si, io mi ricordo (I remember, yes, I do remember), on October 12th, the day before the RomeFilmFest ‘s inauguration, at the Casa del Cinema. The retrospective is composed by a 47 movies, among which films like Giuseppe De Santis’ Days of Love, Mauro Bolognini’s Bell’Antonio, Alessandro Blasetti’s Too Bad She’s Bad, co-starring Sophia Loren and Vittorio De Sica, with whom Marcello would work extensively later on (Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow and Marriage Italian Style, part of the retrospective as well). “The Casa del Cinema – says director Felice Laudadio – is placed on a huge area in the Villa Borghese park named after the actor Marcello Mastroianni due to Mayor Walter Veltroni’s will. It felt pretty natural to us, ten years after his death, to pay a tribute to the actor with a retrospective of his most significant works, selected among the many he played at.”
