The seventeenth Rome Film Fest will be held from the 13th to the 23rd of October 2022.

The Fest will take place at the Auditorium Parco della Musica, which will host the main screening theatres and the extensive red carpet, one of the largest in the world. The programme will also involve other locations and cultural entities of the Capital city.

Alice nella città, the independent and parallel sidebar of the Rome Film Fest dedicated to the younger generations will take place following the same timeline as the Fest, following its own regulations.

“The seventeenth edition will be a Fest, a city festival, international, multiple, mirroring the richness of contemporary cinema, a festival for everyone” stated Gian Luca Farinelli, President of the Fondazione Cinema per Roma.

“The Rome Film Fest redefines ts profile within the international circuit of city festivals, counting on one of the longest red carpets in the world in a city that is a protagonist in the history of cinema.” added Paola Malanga, Artistic Director of the Rome Film Fest, “With respect to the most recent editions, we are officially introducing an international competition, validated by the Fiapf starting this year. The films in the competition, which will be titled Progressive Cinema – Visions for the World of Tomorrow, will be judged by a jury of professionals in the fields of cinema, culture and the arts”.

THE PROGRAMME
In addition to the Competition, the Fest programme will include other non-competitive sections: Freestyle will feature films with no restrictions on format, length and style, from television series to videoclips, from films to video art; Grand Public will be dedicated to cinema for the wider public; Best of 2022 will present some of the finest films of the season seen in other international festivals; Restorations and Retrospectives will present masterpieces that have been restored to their original splendour and explore the work of the protagonists of Italian and international cinema.
The programme will be complemented by two sections dedicated to Encounters with the public: Paso Doble, featuring a conversation between two auteurs, and Absolute Beginners, in which established auteurs will discuss the story of their own debut in cinema.
In addition to the above-mentioned sections, the Fest will also feature events, special screenings and tributes.

JURIES AND AWARDS
The films in the competitive section, Progressive Cinema, will be judged by a jury composed of professionals in the fields of cinema, culture and the arts, who will award six prizes: Best Film, Grand Jury Prize, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Actor and Special Jury Prize (recommended by the President and selected from one of the following categories: screenplay, cinematography, editing and original score). There will also be two Awards for films across all the sections: to the best Comedy and to the best debut film, the latter in collaboration with the independent sidebar Alice nella città. This year too, the spectators will be the protagonists of the Fest as they choose the winner of the People’s Choice award. Finally, the Artistic Director Paola Malanga, in agreement with the President Gian Luca Farinelli will designate Lifetime Achievement awards to personalities who have contributed significantly to the history of cinema.

THE SELECTION COMMITTEE
Paola Malanga will be assisted by a new selection committee composed of: Giovanna Fulvi, expert in Asian cinema and one of the programmers of the Toronto Film Festival; Enrico Magrelli, film critic, former Director of the Settimana internazionale della critica; Emanuela Martini, film critic, former Director of the Torino Film Festival; Nico Marzano, Head of the cinema section of the ICA (Institute of Contemporary Art in London); Alberto Pezzotta, film critic and historian, former member of the selection committee at the Venice International Film Festival.
