Rome Film Fest – Echoes
Telethon at the Rome Film Fest: a Gala Dinner for the Treatment of Genetic Diseases
Telethon at the Rome Film Fest. Gala evening to find a cure for genetic diseasesThe Telethon Foundation will be at the Rome Film Fest for the 9th year in a row, with a Gala Dinner in the name of solidarity. For over twenty-five years, the Foundation has worked every day to bring answers and treatment to people affected by rare genetic diseases, often ignored by the major public and private funds for scientific research and therefore deprived of effective therapies. Telethon has chosen to address its efforts towards this aim, supporting the work of the finest Italian researchers in the field and that of the Tigem Institute in Pozzuoli (Naples) and the SR-Tiget Institute in Milan. These two centres of worldwide excellence for the study of genetic diseases are working to develop highly innovative therapeutic strategies; the Institute in Milan developed Strimvelis, the first gene therapy recognized as an effective treatment for children affected by Ada-Scid, who were once forced to live in total isolation. The Telethon- Rome Film Fest Gala organized by the Telethon Foundation with organizing director Tiziana Rocca will take place on October 19th 2016 at the Open Colonna in the Palazzo delle Esposizioni, and will feature the participation of personalities from the business and entertainment worlds. The goal of the event is to raise funds, by selling tables and lottery tickets. Proceeds will be donated to scientific research on rare genetic diseases and to support the two Telethon institutes in Pozzuoli (Naples) and Milan.
