ANICA-ABI-UNINDUSTRIA | Banks, Companies & Cinema Convention
The Banks, Companies & Cinema Convention, to be held on 27 October 2011, at the opening of the International Film Festival of Rome – The International Film Market (Hotel Bernini Bristol, Conference Room, 10.30 am) – is a new step forward in relations between the film industry and the other protagonists in the world of economy, finance and production. The legislation on tax concessions in favour of national film production, introduced two years ago and already fully implemented by film companies, has in fact never before been presented in its entirety and for its versatility to the companies of the manufacturing and service sectors, to whom a consistent slice of the benefits is also addressed. The path for assessment and knowledge of the main banks and national credit institutes, to which it can offer innovative tools and already acquired know-how, anticipates this step. ANICA, ABI and UNINDUSTRIA which represent respectively the interests of the film industry, of the banking and financial world, and of the companies of all production categories in Lazio, have therefore joined their efforts in this event to present the legislation and its possible applications, clearly and completely to the economic operators outside the world of cinema.

TBS and NCN | Industry Books
Once again The Business Street is enriched by the Industry Books market, an initiative begun in 2010 by the Fondazione Cinema per Roma to build an institutional bridge between publishers and film and television producers, with support from the Province of Rome, Rome Chamber of Commerce, Lazio Region, Sviluppo Lazio, and UK Trade & Investment, in collaboration with AIE, ANICA, APT, the Calipso Association and the Rights Center of the Turin International Book Fair. In keeping with the increasingly intense ties between the publishing and audiovisual industries – an evident sign of which is the continual rise in the number of films or television works made from novels or short stories – Industry Books offers a selection of ten stories with strong adaptation potential, for the big and little screen, to participating producers. On October 27, Industry Books will start with a public pitching by Eric J. Lyman, Italian correspondent of The Hollywood Reporter, of the 10 selected novels. Afterwards the publishers and agents representing the books will meet in pre-scheduled one-on-one meetings with participating producers, in a formula already proven to be successful.

Roma Lazio Film Commission and Provincia di Roma | Rosaria Troisi and Lilly Ippoliti will present the book “Oltre il respiro. Massimo Troisi, mio fratello” pulished by Iacobelli.
Thirty years after the release of Ricomincio da tre and 17 years after his passing, Massimo Troisi’s sister Rosaria opens a treasure chest of reminiscences, overcoming for the first time the reserve with which the family notoriously guarded his memory. Written by Rosaria Troisi and Lilly Ippoliti, the book retraces the story of a shy boy from San Giorgio a Cremano who with determination faced his illness and his life, from his debut on the Smorfia TV show through to the end of his film career. The memoir is accompanied by numerous photographs, many of them never before seen, from family albums and Massimo’s personal collection. Published by Iacobelli Editore, the book will be unveiled during the International Rome Film Festival in collaboration with the Department of Cultural Policies, Province of Rome, Roma & Lazio Film Commission and The Business Street film market. The book will be presented by the authors, publisher Marco Giusti, Gianni Minà and Renato Scarpa.

Workshop: UK Trade & Investment | The Industry of Imagination-A British Effect
Digital technologies are fast becoming one of the cornerstones of the UK film industry. The UK’s reputation as a centre for excellence and its appeal as a location for production and post-production have grown significantly, attracting nearly £929 million of inward investment in 2010.
“The Industry of Imagination” is a brief documentary illustrating the leading role British companies have taken in digital innovation. By drawing on the best talent, from the UK and overseas, these companies have made Soho in London the world capital of visual and special effects. This niche has thrived, providing the expertise to tackle Hollywood’s most demanding projects but also providing cost effective, quality service for smaller productions from across the globe.
Following the presentation of the documentary a panel of specialists will discuss current and future developments of the industry. The panel will include John Richardson, Special Effects Supervisor for the Harry Potter saga, Sal Umerji, Head of VFX of Molinare, and Peter Comninos, Director of the National Centre for Computer Animation.

Apulia Film Commission: strategies, funding and services
The Apulia Film Commission Foundation was established in 2007 with the aim of attracting audiovisual production companies to the area; this would be achieved due to the competitiveness of its facilities, the professionalism of its skilled personnel and the lowering of costs for travel, cast, crew and location scouting in the region. The AFC supports and co-ordinates all links in the film and audiovisual production through two funding grants: Apulia Film Fund and a Hospitality Funding. Support also comes in the form of numerous free-of-charge services such as access to the Production Guide, solutions to logistical problems, consultancy services of professional location managers. The centre of logistics is the Cineport hub, of which there are two, one in Bari and the other in Lecce. The first is situated in 1,200 m² of space and boasts production offices, casting rooms, costume department and a full HD Dolby Surround cinema. The Lecce Cineporto hub is set in 500 m² with areas for exhibitions and installation art. The AFC is a member of the Cine-Regio, the AFCI (International Association of Film Commissions), the IFC (Italian Film Commission Co-ordination), the EUFCN and COPEAM (permanent discussion group for Mediterranean audiovisual productions) and participates at ministerial conciliation talks on industry policy. www.apuliafilmcommission.it

To be eligible, projects must participate in the New Cinema Network and be designed from the outset as a European co-production intended for cinema release between at least two member states of the Eurimages Fund for reasons other than purely financial.
